During the conference logistic and payment is organized by the UCT conference Center. Janet will be your host and will be at registration. Any question on logistic or finance or cancellation need to be addressed to Janet Sirmongpon (janet.sirmongpong at uct.ac.za).
The symposium will take place at the Academic Conference Centre, Graduate School of Business. Physical address: 9 Portswood Road, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. Enter from the Waterfront side close to the aquarium or Portswood Road. There will be a credit card machine at the registration desk for late entry. Daily rate available 800 R a day.
Ferrymans Tavern, Waterfront: Conference pub, the seafood is not bad. Eat upstairs or downstairs. Go there on Monday at 1900 you may meet friends. Also after the ice breaker, we could go there for a drink and a meal.
WIFI: eduroam available, ask your IT wizard to join eduoram. Otherwise WIFI code will be given on the day
Exchange or draw money: At the airport or at the Waterfront, the closest is on the first floor of the Food Market past Comedy central and the Craft Market Otherwise a) Nu Metro Cinemas, Incredible Connection basement parking b)Woolworths basement parking c) at the banks in the Market Square, Craft Market, Woolworths. Check Waterfront web site
Take any of the shuttle services found at the exit of International flight on the right or in the main large arrival hall of national and international . You can book via email for instance Centurion (firstname.lastname@example.org ) or City Hopper (email@example.com) and ask for somebody to welcome you or go straight to their boot. Not expensive and reliable. Ask them to bring you the ATM or exchange boot. They have a credit card facility at the airport only. taxi do not have credit card faciliy in the car.
Do not leave your notebook or even a cable in your luggage
If you transit via Johannesburg, you will have to take your luggage through custom even tough it is labelled to go to Cape Town. depending on the company you use you can drop your luggage in a special counter at the exit of the international exit on the far left on your way to national flight without having to queue again for national boarding.
There are safe ATM to get your Rands at Johannesburg or Cape Town Airport or in the Waterfront
Uber is very popular in Cape town
Parking for the Conference: A bit tricky but plenty of Space in front of the venue but not in the hotel. Entrance is from Porswood road around the hotel and down
40 Euros to be paid by registration or at registration.
Conference dinner: Savruga at the Waterfront. 5 minute walking distance from the Breakwater Lodge. Upstairs is the Albert bar and deck where coktail and drink will be served before the dinner. Perfect hang out place before dinner. Booked under Preface Pirata.
There are many other hotel possibilities around the venue (Breakwater Lodge). Please consult such websites as booking.com or tripadvisor.com or Air B and B. Start with Breakwater Lodge and it should show accommodation nearby by order of distance and price. Mouille point and Sea Points have lovely accommodation by the sea not far from the Waterfront. Uber is very popular in Cape Town
